A “pop-up” is a pop-up when you access the Internet, advertising anything. These are paid ads that are programmed into many different pages on the Internet. Some of these ads are fed into your computer using spyware or adware and must be removed by running scans using your spyware protection software. Using pop-up blocking software is the best way to prevent them from interfering with your computer.
Why block the pop-up?
Many pop-ups appear in the background when you’re working and quietly sit there until you’re done, but a lot of pop-ups at the top, affecting you when you access the Internet. Some pop-ups promote other pop-ups, which prompts more pop-ups.
This type of confounding behavior is the reason that most people want to block them completely. Many Internet browsers already have built-in pop-up blockers and can be set up to block all kinds of pop-ups so you never have to get upset about them again.
Block pop-ups in Firefox
Firefox has a pop-up blocker built into its software and will quietly block pop-ups while you work. Sometimes, there will be a pop-up coming from the page you’re working on that you’ll need to see, such as a sign-in screen or help screen. When this happens, Firefox will alert you at the top of the window to let you know that a pop-up has been blocked. If you’ve just clicked on something that’s expecting a new window and you see this warning instead, just click the button that allows Firefox to open the window. If your Firefox pop-up blocker has been disabled, simply go to the Tools menu of the open Firefox browser and click “Options”.
In the “Content” tab in the Options window, check the box next to “Block pop-ups.” Firefox will now start blocking pop-ups. If you want to exclude blocked sites, you can click on the “Exceptions” button and enter the address of the site that you want to exclude.
Block pop-ups in Internet Explorer
When your Internet Explorer browser is open, use the Tools menu and click “Block pop-ups.” The check mark indicates that it has been turned on, and the deletion of the check mark indicates that the blocker has been turned off. To change the settings that include certain websites or block all websites, clicking “Settings” will take you to another select group so you can customize exactly how the pop-up blocker will work.
